Published: December 13, 2025 9:51 am Joe Debono, who has retired from an almost 60 year career in audio visual engineering, has returned to his first love: painting, although he spent seven years when he was younger studying music. The spirit of George Fenech and Ganni Bonnici lurks in the art of Debono. His works are mainly in oils and reflect the character of the vernacular landscape and village life. His language is impressionistic and so does not go into detail but looks for the essence and colour of the atmosphere around him. Joe shares: 'I do not copy what is in front of me but try to create the atmosphere; Even in my studio, I try to infuse some sort of character in still life paintings.
