Born in Rabat, he began his artistic formation in the early 1960s under Esprit Barthet at the Lyceum in Hamrun, later studying with Chev. Francesco Borg and Anthony Mahony. He continued honing his craft at the Malta School of Art and eventually completed a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Scranton in 1996. Cassar's work revealed a deep reverence for nature, especially the sea, whose shifting moods he captured with sensitivity and poetic restraint. His paintings invited viewers into moments of quiet reflection, emphasizing the beauty and impermanence of the natural world.
