Description:

Paul Camilleri Cauchi, Artist, was born in Victoria Gozo in 1940, son of the renowned sculptor and statuarian Agostino Camilleri. At a very young age Paul took his first training in art in his father’s studio and was further coached by various local and foreign Artists. He obtained the Diploma from the Press Art School of London and further deepened his studies in Rome, Florence and Perugia under the guidance of accomplished tutors. Back in Malta he was enrolled as an Art Teacher. However, in 1973, he submitted his resignation from the education department to fully immerse himself in his true calling, that of creating pictorial decorations for church vaults. Since then he has widely contributed to the world of sacred art both locally and internationally.  His works also include portraits, landscapes, allegorical subjects and still life and can be found in Malta and many other foreign countries. Some of his works were presented and donated to Pope Saint John Paul II in various occasions.  Paul Camilleri Cauchi was knighted in 1968 in ORCB and in the SOSJ of Jerusalem in 1979 following his father’s death.  In acknowledgement for his artistic output and contribution towards Art, he was listed in “Contemporaries Who’s Who” of the American Biographies International, and was awarded “Man of the Year 2004” from the Board of Directors.  In June 2004 Paul was bestowed with the “Gieh il-Belt Victoria Award” by the Victoria Local Council and in 2011 “Gieh Ghawdex Award” by the Circolo Gozitano.  In September 2014 he was awarded the “Premio Internazionale Giuseppe Sciuti (prima edizione)”  by the Comune di Zafferana Etnea and Associazione Artistico Culturale Giuseppe Sciuti, Sicily.  The publication ‘The Academic Colorista’ which focused on Paul’s life and works was launched in December 2014. On 13 December 2017 Paul was bestowed with the honour of being appointed member of the National Order of Merit by Her Excellency the President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.
