Manuel Farrugia, born in Victoria, Gozo in 1989, received his earliest artistic training at the Wistin Camilleri School of Arts in Ghajnsielem, the Ninu Cremona Boys' Lyceum, and the Sir M.A. Refalo Institute. He later completed a four-year program at the School of Arts in Valletta under Tony Sciberras and Dr. Christian Attard, graduating with Distinction in Fine Arts in 2012. Under Pawl Carbonaro, he refined his skills in engraving and portraiture in both oil and clay. Working from his studio in Fontana, Gozo, Farrugia produces paintings, portraits, and sculptures for private and public collections in Malta and abroad, including Australia, Italy, England, Germany, the USA, and Kenya. His works appear in numerous Maltese churches, among them Saint George in Qormi, Saint Paul's Bay, Christ the King in Paola, Saint Teresa in Cospicua, and the Basilica of Saint George in Victoria. Notable pieces include the main altarpiece at the Marsaxlokk sanctuary and paintings from his exhibition LUX, selected for the Catholic Missal. In 2022, he created Malta's official gift for Pope Francis. Farrugia is also recognized for expressive, light-driven portraiture with a contemporary touch.
