Matching set of three George III silver 925 decanter labels of closed gorget form, with pierced centre, feather-edge borders and vacant cartouche, surmounted by a bow – Brandy, Rum and Sherry. Crafted by celebrated London Silversmith Hester Bateman. circa 1785. Including chains H:5 x W:4.4cm. Hester Bateman (1708 – 1794) was an English silversmith, renowned for her high quality flatware and ornamental silverware. A craftswoman working within the family business, she was succeeded in turn by her sons, daughter-in-law, grandson and great-grandson. The Bateman family silversmithing company lasted until the middle of the nineteenth century. Hester Bateman has become one of the most famous female silversmiths; so renowned that her Mark can double and sometimes triple the value of a piece. She has a huge following among American collectors, which helps to maintain the high price and desirability of her pieces. Donated anonymously by a member of the Events Action Team
