Published: September 15, 2023 5:40 pm A wonderful opportunity for two people (max total weight 500lbs) to enjoy a day trip from Cambridge in a Cessna 182 touring aeroplane, flown by Group Captain Terry Holloway, Managing Director of the Cambridge Aero Club, visiting the magnificent Regency Swiss Gardens and historic aircraft collection at Old Warden, which forms part of the Shuttleworth Trust. Entrance, with lunch at The Runway Cafe are included. The day will start with coffee and biscuits at 10:30 am before flying to Old Warden and the Shuttleworth Collection, landing at around midday. The flight to and from Old Warden will pass over a number of National Trust houses and passengers will enjoy scenic views of the beautiful Cambridgeshire countryside. The total flying time between Cambridge and Old Warden and return will be around one hour. At the heart of the Shuttleworth Collection is the picturesque Regency Swiss Gardens which provide a green and pleasant idyll in this quiet corner of Bedfordshire. A wonderful restoration has recently taken place, with the landscape designed to lead visitors to several viewpoints and vistas. There are surprises at every corner, including 13 listed features. As well as being home to resident peacocks, ducks and other wildlife, the garden contains many examples of beautifully carved animals and birds and an historic grotto. The Shuttleworth Collection contains a significant number of the oldest flying aircraft in the world, thanks to Richard Shuttleworth who, during the 1930s, rescued all present aircraft and vehicles and brought them to Old Warden Park. Most of these aircraft are maintained in flying condition and it is possible that the visitors will see some historic aircraft flying during their visit. On the return flight to Cambridge Airport (ETA 16.00hrs) there will be an opportunity see the historic centre of Cambridge from the air.
